Mt. Hood Engagement Photos
Mt. Hood Engagement Photos | Scott + Sam
Mt. Hood, Oregon, is a stunning location for engagement photography, especially for adventurous couples like Scott and Sam. Winter sessions near Government Camp bring breathtaking snowy backdrops but require flexibility due to unpredictable weather. For this engagement shoot, we embraced the snowy scenery across two beautiful spots on Mt. Hood. Whether you’re planning an engagement session, elopement, or wedding, we love capturing these magical moments in the snow. Just remember to bundle up, as Scott and Sam did! Their cozy touches, like coffee mugs and blankets, added a personal and warm vibe to their photos.
The best advice we can give for capturing a successful snow session is finding locations that are on the snow line (past a few inches it doesn’t really add anything to the scene). If you want to get a stunning location with Mt. Hood in the background know that it will take a little longer then normal to clime threw deep snow. When doing a snow session give 2-3 hours as you might have to change location if it’s too busy, windy or icy. Also a weekday can really help with it being busy.
Another important part of getting photos in the snow is making sure you have the right car with proper snow chains/tires. You also need a snow pac permit to park anywhere past Rhododendron, Oregon. You can find a permit in pretty much gas station or grocery store past Sandy Oregon, as well as Joe’s Doughnuts in Sandy (a wonderful place that is a favorite with a lot of mountain goers).
It was nice having experience working with them as it was so cold our gear was not doing so well in the cold. It’s also important to know that it takes longer to get magical photos as simple tasks such as walking, setting up a shot and making sure it’s perfect takes a little longer then it otherwise would.
