3 tips for Better Headshot Photos + Experience:

1. Prepare Ahead of Time: Prepare for your session by choosing outfits that are not only professional but also make you feel confident. Solid colors usually work best as they avoid drawing attention away from the face. Consider grooming before the shoot, such as getting a haircut, root touchup (if you dye your hair) or getting your nails filled a few days prior. Also make sure your clothes are well-ironed and fit properly (try your outfits on before the session and take a photo with your phone to ensure you like how it looks in photos. This preparation can help you feel more relaxed and confident during your session.

2. Communicate the Purpose: It's important that clients communicate the purpose of their headshots to you. Are these for a corporate website, an artistic portfolio, or social media? Knowing this can help ua tailor the session to suit your specific needs—whether it's choosing the right background, style, or even the expression you should hold.

3. Practice Expressions: Spend some time in front of a mirror practicing different facial expressions. This can include finding your best smile, experimenting with 'serious' professional looks, and trying out subtle variations in their gaze (such as looking slightly above the camera lens). Practicing these expressions can help you feel more in control and comfortable during the shoot, and you can quickly switch between expressions to provide a variety of options for different uses. This exercise can be particularly helpful for easing nerves and improving the overall efficiency of the photo session.
