We were very excited to capture my sister Melissa's maternity photos last month at Manzanita, Oregon, on the Oregon Coast. Its always an adventure getting photos on the Oregon Coast because of the weather. You just never know what you will get until the day of the shoot. We got really lucky with the beautiful sunset. It was a bit windy but the whole family rocked it. I really loved the photos of the kids walking in the water as that was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I know Kylie loves the ocean too, just like her aunt Amber.
When planning your Oregon Coast session a few things to remember are:
The weather Is very unpredictable, no matter what time of year it is. We have had sessions in winter that are sunny and 65 and sessions in summer that are rainy and 50 with a ton of wind.
Make sure you arrive early for sunset photos as the walk out to the ocean can take 10-15 minutes before you find the perfect spot.
When you arrive at the location you choose, it could seem fine when you get out of the car but be very windy down by the water.
Make sure you bring extra clothes if you want to get into the water for some of your photos. You should plan to do those photos last.
Wear sandals while walking out to the ocean as the sand can be hot, then take them off to get photos on the harder sand and in the water.
If you have small children and/or pets, have another adult come to help keep an eye on them so you can enjoy the session. Also bring treats for the dogs so they will have a great experience.
Make sure everyone goes to the restroom before walking down to the water.
