Zombie Family Session

Last fall we had an amazing family photo session at a Christmas tree farm… with a twist! Alison always loves to get creative with her family's photo shoots, and this past year was no different. It started as a normal family session, until some extra guests showed up! We had such a blast. Creative sessions are always so much fun. It was quite an adventure working with zombies, chainsaws and a toddler! Halloween is one of Amber’s favorite holidays so this is definitely one of her favorite family sessions of all time!

Tips for creative family sessions

  1. Know that the more creative the idea, the longer it will take to execute. This session took the family half a day, between make up and changing locations and waiting for the zombies to show up and get in place.

  2. Make sure you have a game plan with your photographer and make a timeline. Remember to include extra time for things such as a toddler needing a nap or the props needing some adjustment.

  3. Invest in something you love. If you’re passionate about the session it will show in the end result. Also make sure your photographer is just as passionate, because it takes a lot of work to pull something like this off.

  4. Rewards for children are super important for this kind of project, whether it's ice cream afterwards, extra screen time or something else they love. This kind of thing takes time, and its a lot of expect of children to be patient, so prepare them mentally for this and remember to reward them for all their hard work!

  5. Have fun and go with the flow. Attitude is everything. If something does not go to plan, just roll with it. Doing a creative family session can be stressful, but it does not have to be with the right mindset.
