Cathedral Park Portland Elopement

Capturing this elopement at Cathedral Park under the St. Johns Bride in Portland, Oregon was so much fun! They had a Spiderman themed elopement and it was one of the classist themed weddings we have ever been a part of! Look at her dress, (it was off ETSY) and his suit, what can you not love about that! We loved how they were all about fun, friends and getting beautiful images!

Tips for eloping

  • Find an officiant, or if you want have a family member or friend get ordained online.

  • Pick a location: Some places you can just show up get married and leave and others you need to get permission. We have done elopements at parks, college campuses, private homes, venues, community rooms, beaches, and the list goes on. Pick a stunning location that means something to you.

  • After saying I do, spend sometime getting photos with guests (if any) and getting couple photos. This is your chance to spend an hour getting magical photos of the two of you.

  • Pick a photographer that you feel will have fun with. Remember its worth the investment as you will want to show these photos off and treasure them for your whole marriage!

  • Have fun and don't be afraid to be silly! We take pride in making sure your photography experience is full of laughter, kisses and silliness!

  • Wear something that you love! If you are not into dressing up thats ok, and if you want to get a stunning outfit thats good too, remember your happiness is all that matters!

Eloping is not what it used to be. “Elopement, colloquially speaking, is often used to refer to a marriage conducted in sudden and secretive fashion, usually involving a hurried flight away from one's place of residence together with one's beloved with the intention of getting married. Elopements, in which a couple runs away together and seeks the consent of their parents later, differ greatly from abductions and bride kidnapping in which there is no consent of the bride and/or groom. Today the term "elopement" is colloquially used for any marriage performed in haste, with a limited public engagement period or without a public engagement period.” “As millennials age, they are waiting longer to get married than previous generations. Further, 91% of millennials that are planning on future marriage would consider eloping, and three out of five previously married millennials would elope if they had to do it all over again.” (Wikipedia)

Some small weddings are considered elopements nowadays and some are called Micro weddings. Don't get caught up in terms, as all that matters is your happiness! No matter what you call it they all just really mean a smaller scale wedding with less activities. We have had couples call us months in advance for their “elopement” and we have had couples call us the night before asking if we were open to take photos the next day.
