We were honored to be invited to this group styled shoot. We couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to test our new lighting. After working this event we were definitely convinced we needed to invest more MagMod and Godex gear while in Las Vegas for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers Conference (WPPI) .While Eric had a good idea of what he wanted, I appreciate being able to have taken advantage of the low stress environment to test everything out. After seeing the versatility of these lights, it did not take long to know it was exactly what we needed.
With multiple talented photographers shooting the same event, we really took this as chance to do something different. The combination of natural light, off camera flash, and lighting gels produced the dramatic colors we were looking for. The couple that modeled for this event are also a talented team of photographers, as well as partners! This made for some beautiful chemistry throughout this shoot. We are very thankful for the kindness and patience everyone exhibited while we set up our lighting, which can take a bit more time to assemble than relying on natural light alone.
We were worried prior to this session, due to the15” of predicted snow, but were pleasantly surprised to get far less. A fair amount of vendors were forced to back out of this styled shoot at the last minute due to the weather forecast, but we were all able to accomplish what we wanted with the team that was able to attend. Elise, with Keen Events, allowed this session to go off without a hitch. We could not have produced the photos we did without her.
After this shoot we have the bug! Both Eric and I look forward to pushing our limits of creativity playing with lighting. Candid photos have always been a very important part of our style, but learning new and interesting methods for capturing fun and exciting photos is a new found passion. We feel the extra time needed to set up for these photos is an easy payoff when the couples can really enjoy the finished product. Memories meant for a life time are worth the extra minutes.
